America’s Next Top Pro Model

America’s Next Top Pro Model is coming back to High Cascade tomorrow, July 18th! Here is what Snowboarder Magazine has to say about their Awesome™ contest!

(Photo Aaron Dodds)

For the third year in a row, SNOWBOARDER magazine is proud to announce the return of America’s Next Top Pro Model (ANTPM) presented by The House.
Seeing your name on the topsheet of a snowboard is the supreme honor that can be only be bestowed upon a pro, even surpassing an Olympic gold in its value to a true rider. This is exactly why SNOWBOARDER gave birth to ANTPM. America’s Next Top Pro Model is a celebration of those elite few who have reached the pinnacle of their professional snowboarding career, and this year, it’ll be happening once again on the High Cascade Snowboard Camp lane up on the Palmer glacier on Mt. Hood, Oregon from July 18th through the 20th. There are six events that encapsulate the largest gathering of pro model recipients in the world: High Ollie, Longest Rail, Big Air in the HCSC 22-footer, Spin To Win, the Charity Auction, and the Chinese Downhill.

Confirmed riders for this year’s ANTPM are: Aaron Biittner, Bode Merrill, Bryan Fox, Chris Bradshaw, Corey Noble, Derek Dennison, Dylan Thompson, Eddie Wall, Forest Bailey, Iikka Backstrom, Jake Olsen-Elm, Jeff Kramer, Kevin Jones, Kyle Clancy, Lane Knaack, Lauri Heiskari, Marc Swoboda, Max Weinberger, and Kurt Wastell.

SNOWBOARDER
has decided to inaugurate an ANTPM Grand Marshall this year, with those honors being bestowed upon the legendary Russell Winfield, and we also feel the need to mention that the Godfather of freestyle snowboarding and the man with the first-ever pro model deck, Terry Kidwell, has also confirmed his attendance to this prestigious summer event. Kidwell claims, “When I got the first pro model snowboard twenty-five years ago I didn’t know what a big deal that would be in the future. It had the first kicktail because us Tahoe guys just wanted to skateboard on the snow. That board changed snowboarding from surf style to skate style. I want to thank all of the riders who have gotten pro models since, and who keep the tradition going and keep pushing the limits of snowboarding.”

The ANTPM format is simple: The rider who garners the most points in every event will be crowned “The Champ” of the 2011 America’s Next Top Pro Model, joining former champions Lauri Heiskari and last year’s winner, Austin Smith. Keep checking snowboardermag.com, highcascade.com and facebook.com/snowboardermag for all the action from Mt. Hood.

The 2011 ANTPM is proudly brought to you by High Cascade Snowboard Camp, The House, Timberline Resort, and all the companies who support the place of signature models in snowboarding culture.

Signature Sessioner™ Jess Kimura Lives in a Truck?

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Nice trucks on that skateboard. Too small to live in though.

Snowboarder Magazine caught up with Jess last summer at camp to see what kind of gear she’s running for a video piece they call “Shred to Toe”. Check out her set up for life on the road… it’s pretty sick.

Hey Jess – next summer at your Signature Session™ – we’ll give you a house to sleep in. Promise.

Authorized Awesome: The October Issue of Snowboarder Magazine

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

High Cascade is loving the October Issue!

Top 10 Reasons Why:

1.) America’s Next Top Pro Model article.  8 Pages of action at HCSC!

2.) Keegan Valaika’s photo at camp on the “Genuine Draft” page.  Keegan’s style isridiculous.

3.) Eric Jackson’s “First Photo” piece from when he was a camper at HCSC (even though he was a little punk).

4.) Scott Steven’s quote in the “Street Smarts” interview about how his job at HCSC was his big break.  Thanks buddy!

5.) Our logo in the Video Grass Ad.  Thanks guys.

6.) The “Feed Me” article starring former HCSC counselor Mike Parziale’s Grease Bus tour with Nike Snowboarding (in the bus we had all summer at camp).

7.) The covers! Signature Sessioner™ Hana Beaman’s back cover.  Congrat’s Hana. (and the fact that they gave Youngblood Austin Sweetin a very deserved cover).

8.) We just read that Forest Bailey is getting a Gnu Park Pickle Pro Model!  Hope we have a jar of them in the Demo Center this summer.

9.) 2 Danny Davis spread ads!  Thank Burton/Analog for not tossing aside a rider who’s injured.  Good to see Danny support while he’s healing up.

10.) The sequence of Stevie Bell’s pond skim boat ollie!  (Go watch the Forum movie now!  It’s insane.)

The caption in this article about out-sourcing the American Downhill to China is one of the best captions ever written.

Snowboarder Magazine’s ANTPM (America’s Next Top Pro Model) Coverage From HCSC

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

We played host to a contest last week, called America’s Next Top Pro Model, put on by Snowboarder Magazine.  It was a radical time of pro boarder-dudes testing their board’s skill level…  The following images are actually links to pages on www.snowboardermag.com that really break down that went down.  We could write all about it too… but we’re a snowboard camp… not a magazine.  Feel free to click on these  to be taken to a magical place on the Internet

We're not sure if this is plagiarism? We took a screenshot of a photo Snowboarder Magazine's Aaron Dodds took. Aaron - if your out there, please let us know if you intend to sue.

Plagiarism again? Still not sure. This time it's a Ryan Hughes Photo. Huggy? Are we cool?

Ya like Movies? Watch this one. It's the coverage from the ANTPM High Ollie contest.

SNOWBAORDER Magazine Superpark 14 Starts Tomorrow. HCSC is there!

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Check out the Press Release from Snowboarder Magazine!

SNOWBOARDER Magazine’s Superpark 14 presented by Gatorade is back! The event kicks-off tomorrow, May 4 and runs through Friday, May 7, 2010 at Mammoth Mountain Resort in Mammoth, California.

Among the nearly 150 strong pack of confirmed riders preparing to rush the Animal Park are Halldór Helgason,
Jamie Anderson, Dan Brisse, Heikki Sorsa, Janna Meyen-Weatherby, Lauri Heiskari, Lonnie Kauk, Pat Moore,
Eric Willet and Louief Paradis. The innovative builders of Mammoth, Bear and Loon Mountain resorts set a
new standard last year with features like the “Loonatic” jump which took over 37 hours to build and the biggest
hip ever seen in the Sierra’s. Joining the Mammoth and Loon builders this year is the crew from High Cascade
Snowboard Camp in Mt. Hood, OR. With over 20 years dedicated to advancing terrain building and
riding, High Cascade brings experience and a fresh perspective to the teams of builders. Leading the
charge for HCSC is legendary cutter Pat Melandowski whose stick work has shaped Olympic, Open and
Grand Prix venues.

“There is a symbiotic relationship between snowboarders and builders,” says Chris Engelsman, Publisher, SNOWBOARDER Magazine. “Innovations by builders drive riders to try new tricks and vice versa. It’s an amazing thing to watch happen and SNOWBOARDER is proud to provide an arena that makes such collaboration possible.”

“Having High Cascade join the cadre of Superpark cutters is an exciting prospect,” explains Pat Bridges,
Editor, SNOWBOARDER Magazine “I have long admired Pat Melandowski and his Planet Snow team for their
efforts to create features that enable our sports best riders to ride at their best. At the Vail Session in 2007
Planet Snow created a setup where David Benedek stomped a double cork 1260. Talk about being ahead of
your time. Then there are the quarterpipes they’ve built which are…well you’ll all see what I mean soon
enough.” Superpark 14 kicks-off tomorrow. Visit SnowboarderMag.com for daily updates and a sneak preview of the
coverage to come in the January 2011 issue of SNOWBOARDER Magazine—an issue dedicated entirely to
Superpark.
