Summer 2011 Has Begun!!!

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Today, 6/15/2011, marked the very first day of High Cascade’s 2011 summer season! While it may not have been the sunniest first day in camp’s history, it sure was one of the best! Campers started to arrive at HCSC around noon.

While it might have been a little misty and rainy, it did not damper the fun everyone had all day. Youth Campers™,

and
Adult Campers™

started off the day by checking in with the nurse, and then finding out which Chalet™ they were staying in, or grabbing their bags and heading into the lodge.

Once everyone was checked in, it was time to call the parents, tell them they all made it safe, and grab a sweet HCSC camper t-shirt!

After checking in, it really was up to you to do what ever you wanted to do. Some people went to Cobra Dogs.

While other people went to the Demo Center™, to try out some of next years’ brand new gear.

The Demo Center™
was really popping off today! People were trying out and demoing all different types of product.

No matter if it were boots, boards, or bindings that people were looking for, the Demo Center™ had it ready and available.

We had coaches in there all day, such as Arbor Snowboards rider Scotty Vine helping people find, and set up the perfect board, just for them.

If demoing gear wasn’t your thing, well there were also fierce Ping-Pong

and Foosball tournaments throughout the entire day!

Because of the rain, our arrival Barbecue was not held at the street course like it normally is. Rather, we had a delicious Barbecue

at Boardwalk.

Boardwalk is where we eat all of our meals every other day during the session.

After dinner, everyone, Campers and Staff, made their way down to the lodge for all camp Orientation™.

During Orientation™, everyone was able to go over all of the rules of camp, as well as meet the Signature Sessioners™. This session the Signature Sessioners™ are Scott Stevens,Jesse Burtner, Jed Anderson, as well as special guest Jake Kuzyk. All of those guys came into Orientation™ and introduced themselves.

The Campers were also introduced to The One Life Crew. The One Life Crew which consists of Sarka Pancochova, Chanelle Sladics, Celia Miller, and Kjersti Buaas, are all about promoting healthy eating. So because of them all of the food that we are going to be serving is going to be 100% organic.

The only Signature Sessioner™ who was not in attendance at Orientation™ was Salomon pro-rider Chris Grenier. But he had a very, very special reason for missing the meeting. That reason was game 7 of the NHL Stanly Cup. His beloved Boston Bruins were in a do or die situation, and they luckily pulled through. Watch Chris’s reaction to a goal in the 2nd period:

It really was an awesome start to the 2011 summer. Tomorrow is the first day On Hill, and with a record breaking snow year, it looks like it’s going to be an awesome one! Check back tomorrow to see what crazy things went down on and off the hill!!

so we here at HCSC thought it would be a good idea for all of you out there in internet land to see what our Signature Session™ riders have been up to this winter!  Here’s some info on the guys, and coming soon we will give you the dirt on all the ladies.

Scott Stevens and Jesse Burtner:

Scott spent this winter living in Salt Lake City and traveling all over the world filming for the new Think Thank video, Ransack Rebellion, as well as filming for the new Capita video

Jesse spent his winter at home in Washington, and as one of the head masterminds behind Think Thank, was able to film and create another amazing video part/video. You can check out their new teaser right here:

Chris Grenier and Jed Anderson:

Jed and Chris both filmed for the new VideoGrass film, entitled Shoot the Moon. Chris based his winter out of Salt Lake City, Ut. While living in the infamous SFK house he was able to stack some pretty amazing shots.

Jed based his winter out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, but he was able to put a hurting on every rail and jump all over the planet. Check out the Shoot the Moon teaser to see both of these guys in action:

Gretchen Bleiler’s Totally Awesome and Fun Eco Challenge!

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

The Eco Challenge started out at a fast and furious pace with tons of Oakley goggles, Eco-friendly outerwear from the GB collection and Steve Fisher’s bamboo pro model up for grabs!

The whole Eco Challenge Scavenger Hunt Group posing with ALEX and Gretchen!

The campers had to complete a 10 question scavenger hunt including tasks such as: find Gretchen and Steve at their favorite Gov’y spot, pick up 5 pieces of trash and think of 2 ways HCSC could become more environmentally friendly.

The Scavenger Hunt Questions. Don't worry, we kept things green by printing them on the back of scrap paper from our recycling bin!

In what seemed like no time at all the first two teams rolled in with the completed Eco Challenges!

The first team to come back got to Ro Sham Bo between and Oakley prize pack or Steve Fisher's Pro Model Board. Can you guess who won the board?

It was a close race! These ladies took second place by mere seconds, and each got to pick out a peice of eco-friendly outerwear from the GB collection.

After the Eco Challenge results were all tallied, the camper teams met back at the lodge to make a piece of artwork or fashion out of the trash they had collected and any other reused or reclaimed items they could find. The level of creative insight for the art projects was incredible and there was even more prizes on the line for Gretchen’s and Steve’s favorite picks.

The 3rd place team got extra points for picking up way more than the required 5 peices of trash to make their art project.

The second place team found Gretchen's soft spot when they incorporated both ALEX of alexbottle.com and high cascade!

Last but not least, these guys incorporated the marshmallow, high cascade, and a snowboard/collage to bring home the first place title. Congrats!

The art work podium shot.

It was was fun, educational and generally awesome for everyone who was involved! I am looking forward to paging through all the Eco Challenges and put some of the ideas to work making my everyday life and high cascade more green! Check out more of the art projects below.
