The 2010 Oregon Interscholastic Snowboarding Association (OISA) State Championships were off the hook! The three day event held at Mt Hood Meadows on March 11, 12 & 13 included over 200 top competitors from high schools throughout the state. The boys and girls went head to head in four events: Banked Slalom, Snowboard Cross, Slope Style & Half Pipe. Despite near blizzard conditions on Thursday and Friday, the competitions went on without a hitch- and there was plenty of POW for everyone!

For the 1st time in the OISA’s 11 year history, a rippin’ girl from Sandy High School, Sara Gall, and a sick shredder from Grant High School, Kenny Srofe, took first place in both Slope Style and Half Pipe! The two undefeated shredders looked like Michael Phelps at the awards ceremony on Saturday night- gold medal bling! Sandy High School swept the competition in overall standings for boys and girls and were award the coveted Sato Cup.

It was all smiles at the end of the weekend- especially during the raffle at the awards ceremony. The OISA raffled off all kinds of killer gear from snowboard companies- boards, outerwear, backpacks, gloves, hoodies- you name it. The place was packed with free stuff for everyone! The awards ceremony ended with a bang- one very lucky competitor’s name was drawn as the winner of a free session to High Cascade Snowboard Camp!!! Danny Hodges was stoked beyond words as he heard his name get called for the free HCSC sesh this summer. It was truly a moment to remember!

…..and way to go and a big call out to the OISA board and Chip Treadwell. The OISA season and the final state competion generated more than stoked podium winners. All Riders were there to support themselves, their friends, teams, and Snowboarding as a way to show up in life and create community!
