Skateboarding RULES!!!!!!

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

As much as we love snowboarding here at High Cascade Snowboard Camp, we also love skateboarding!!! Today we had an All Girls Skate™ activity! All Girls Skate™ is a really fantastic place for girls at camp to meet up and skate without all of the pressure of the guys hanging around. It doesn’t matter if you’re a really good skater, or if you are a total beginner, All Girls Skate™ is nothing but a really great time! Look at how awesome™ it was today!

After All Girls Skate™ was over, the skating got mixed gendered. Coach Ben Ross came down and put a hurting on the big bowl. Watch the footage to see what we are talking about.

A ton of other really cool activities also happen today! We had a HCSC exclusive, Shoe Golf™!!!! Coach Kyle Fisher invented this wild and crazy game last summer. Just think of it as Frisbee golf, but instead of throwing a disk, you are flinging your shoe.

Airblaster
also hosted a scavenger hunt this afternoon. Campers were rummaging throughout the entire town of Government Camp looking for answers to all of the clues that Airblaster gave them!

The winners were the ones who found all of the answers to the clues off the treasure map. These three guys were the victors, and for their troubles they all received awesome Airblaster outerwear!

While the Airblaster scavenger hunt was happening, Salomon dropped by to host a bleach art activity. Campers were all given Salomon t shirts and were show how to bleach art.

What you do is place items on the t-shirt that you want to trace, spray the bleach, and viola! You have a brand new, custom t-shirt!

It’s always awesome to see just how fun the off-hill activities can really be! Sometimes it’s easy to forget that there’s so much more to HCSC then just the amazingly awesome snowboarding that we have!! Check back tomorrow to see all of the awesome stuff that happens on Day 4 of Session 2™!!!!!

The blood is getting pumped out today.

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

Today, up at HCSC, we are having our annual staff blood drive. Every summer, for the past 5 summers the American Red Cross has brought up their blood mobile for a blood drive.

Some facts about the American Red Cross:

  • The Red Cross was founded in 1881 by Clara Barton.
  • Every single year the Red Cross is responsible for providing 40% of the nations blood supply, which gets distributed to hospitals, and transfusion centers.
  • The blood that is received during these donations is then used to help people who might need blood transfusions because of car accidents, or have blood disorders like Anemia. The blood can also used to help people suffering from Leukemia or other types of cancer. The blood can be used for just about anything.

It is important for High Cascade to hold this blood drive every year because it takes place during the Red Crosses’ blood drive off-season. The Red Cross mostly depends on high-schools and colleges to get their blood. But since it’s the summer time, those places are now closed. So now, when you are at HCSC, not only can you be pumped on your coach or counselor because they are ripping snow boarders, you can also be pumped on them because you know they helped saved lives!

Today we were able to donate 32 units of blood. Through out the entire history of the HCSC blood drive we have raised 171 units of blood. That equates to 76.95 liters of blood. Considering that the human body roughly contains 5.6 liters of blood, we have been able to donate a lot of blood!!

Boxes for Days!!

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Session 4 is going to have “Boxes for Days”. Not only is Session 4 the Signature Session™ for Eero Ettala, Heikki Sorsa, Iikka Backstrom, Lauri Heiskari, Eero Niemela, and Erin Comstock, but it’s also home to the “Boxes for Days” contest at Mt. Hood. That’s right the “ridiculously fun event involving a lot of boxes” is coming to High Cascades’ private park during Session 4.

This contest is awesome. Just imagine every type of box you could ever think of, all put together into one long box. “Boxes for Days” is sponsored by Mervin MFG ( Lib-Tech and GNU), Coal, and Think Thank, and Lib-Techs’ own Jesse Burtner will be on hand announcing all the action that’s guaranteed to go down. Watch this video of the “Boxes for Days” from Summit at Snoqualmie to see exactly what we are talking about.

“Boxes for Days” is free for all HCSC Session 4 campers and is part of Snowboarder Magazines “America’s Next Top Pro-model” Contest. More on that contest soon…
