ANTPM!!!

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

SNOWBOARDER magazine’s America’s Next Top Pro Model wrapped up yesterday, July 20th.

Things really heated up in High Cascade’s private snowboard park! The day started off with the pros trying to battle it out on the LONGEST RAIL EVER!!!!! Ok, ok, it wasn’t really the longest rail, but it was pretty dang long!

While some riders, such as Aaron Bittner, and Sage Kostenberg, were able to make it to the end…

Other riders, like the legendary Kevin Jones, didn’t make it away so lucky!

All in all though, the mega long rail was a good time for everyone. Especially Smoken’ Snowboards rider Max Weinberger.

After the rail section of the contest, it was time for the highest air in the mini-pipe. Riders such as Lane Knack, Forest Bailey, and Bode Merril were soaring above the mini-pipe!

While ANTPM was quite eventful on hill, it wasn’t all of the action that was happening up there. No, no, there was much much more. Lib-Tech’s Boxes For Days also took place up on hill yesterday. The contest took place on the same crazy long rail that the pros were riding just minutes before. Think Thank mastermind, and Session 1 Signature Sessioner™, Jesse Burtner was announcing all over the action over the microphone. The campers were so pumped to ride an extremely unique feature, and win tons of awesome gear from Lib-Tech!

If being in a contest wasn’t your thing, well there was also plenty of other riding happening all day. Check out this photo of Coach Seth Hill, boosting over our hip!

Just look at camp Filmer Matt Roberge’s face. This air was pretty unbelievable!!!

Off the hill, the ANTPM action started back up again, this time with the Charity Auction! All of the pros from the contest brought their gear down to Boardwalk and auctioned off all of their gear that they had been using throughout the entire contest.

After all of the bidding took place during the silent auction of the event, it then became a one on one bid off. People were able to walk away with some of their favorite pro’s gear for a super good price!

In the end, it was Bode Merril, and HCSC facilities manager, Brock Odolovich, who came out with the most amount raised for charity. While Brock might have paid the most, he also received the most gear. Bode’s package included 3 boards, a set of bindings, a pair of boots, 3 pairs of goggles, a set of outerwear, 2 sets of sunglasses, and some brand new base layer. It was a steal for Brock!

SNOWBOARDER magazine’s ANTPM is a great contest, that brings out pros from every generation and allows them to compete in a fun, carefree environment. We, at High Cascade Snowboard Camp, think it’s a great opportunity to have our campers meet, and interact with their favorite pros! It was a great event, and we can’t wait for it to happen again, next summer!!

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

WE HAD A DOUBLE RAINBOW TODAY!!!!!!!!

We will say it again, a double rainbow!!!!!!

It was purely amazing! But what does it mean? Does it mean that we landed on the moon? Because by the looks of things, it looks like we here at High Cascade have now officially, landed on the moon!

Just kidding, it’s Mt.Hood, and right now it’s the home of SNOWBOARDER magazine’s America’s Next Top Pro Model contest!

Today was the Spin to Win part of the contest, and it was going off!

Also going off today was the big ole’ down tube. Things were getting a little crazy.

So much action happened on the hill that it light up the sky!

Hopefully the pink sky heats up tomorrow and we have a totally scorching day on hill!

America’s Next Top Pro Model

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

America’s Next Top Pro Model is coming back to High Cascade tomorrow, July 18th! Here is what Snowboarder Magazine has to say about their Awesome™ contest!

(Photo Aaron Dodds)

For the third year in a row, SNOWBOARDER magazine is proud to announce the return of America’s Next Top Pro Model (ANTPM) presented by The House.
Seeing your name on the topsheet of a snowboard is the supreme honor that can be only be bestowed upon a pro, even surpassing an Olympic gold in its value to a true rider. This is exactly why SNOWBOARDER gave birth to ANTPM. America’s Next Top Pro Model is a celebration of those elite few who have reached the pinnacle of their professional snowboarding career, and this year, it’ll be happening once again on the High Cascade Snowboard Camp lane up on the Palmer glacier on Mt. Hood, Oregon from July 18th through the 20th. There are six events that encapsulate the largest gathering of pro model recipients in the world: High Ollie, Longest Rail, Big Air in the HCSC 22-footer, Spin To Win, the Charity Auction, and the Chinese Downhill.

Confirmed riders for this year’s ANTPM are: Aaron Biittner, Bode Merrill, Bryan Fox, Chris Bradshaw, Corey Noble, Derek Dennison, Dylan Thompson, Eddie Wall, Forest Bailey, Iikka Backstrom, Jake Olsen-Elm, Jeff Kramer, Kevin Jones, Kyle Clancy, Lane Knaack, Lauri Heiskari, Marc Swoboda, Max Weinberger, and Kurt Wastell.

SNOWBOARDER
has decided to inaugurate an ANTPM Grand Marshall this year, with those honors being bestowed upon the legendary Russell Winfield, and we also feel the need to mention that the Godfather of freestyle snowboarding and the man with the first-ever pro model deck, Terry Kidwell, has also confirmed his attendance to this prestigious summer event. Kidwell claims, “When I got the first pro model snowboard twenty-five years ago I didn’t know what a big deal that would be in the future. It had the first kicktail because us Tahoe guys just wanted to skateboard on the snow. That board changed snowboarding from surf style to skate style. I want to thank all of the riders who have gotten pro models since, and who keep the tradition going and keep pushing the limits of snowboarding.”

The ANTPM format is simple: The rider who garners the most points in every event will be crowned “The Champ” of the 2011 America’s Next Top Pro Model, joining former champions Lauri Heiskari and last year’s winner, Austin Smith. Keep checking snowboardermag.com, highcascade.com and facebook.com/snowboardermag for all the action from Mt. Hood.

The 2011 ANTPM is proudly brought to you by High Cascade Snowboard Camp, The House, Timberline Resort, and all the companies who support the place of signature models in snowboarding culture.

Rain Stinkss!!!!!!

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

So, unfortunately we had a rain day today. Fortunately for everyone, High Cascade is the most fun place to be on the entire planet, so it wasn’t a big deal at all! A bunch of us went Bowling and to see Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon in 3D! Man that movie was a trip. So much action!

Bowling was super fun too! Bowling may not sound like the most exciting activity ever, but man is it fun once you get into it!

Tonight was also our All Camp Giveaway™! Campers walked away with tons of amazing prizes! Everything from bags and hats

to a ton of snowboards! This guy got Curtis Ciszeks board for doing an awesome method.

These guys battled it out in the world famous Rock, Paper, Scissors™ battle for a board. These three were the super lucky winners and they were so hyped! We gave away 2 awesome boards from Salomon, and Signature Sessioner™ Hana Beaman gave away an awesome Ride board.

Pat Moore also gave away a sick Forum snowboard to a super lucky camper!

There were also autographs being signed left and right!

Session 3
was such awesome time! We had plenty of awesome weather, awesome boarding, and awesome times! We really are going to miss everyone from Session 3!!!!

It’s Missile Time, Baby!!!!!

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

Today on hill it was all about the DC Missile. This awesome feature used to be at the world famous DC Mountain Lab, before it’s untimely demise. However since the Mountain Lab is no more, the missile is now in our park, and it got absolutely annihilated today. Check out Coach Eric Beauchemin and Demo guy Tanner McCarty, and see how they put a real hurting on the missile. WMD, we think not. It was more like a bunch of SCMD’s™ (shredders causing massive destruction).

The missile however was not the only feature getting slaughtered today. The quarter-pipe was also getting plenty of action. Check out the man behind the Ham Van, Skylar Brent, throwing down a mean hand plant!

The Log on top of the quarter-pipe was also shredded so hard today that it started to splinter up. OK, so it didn’t really start to splinter up, but some totally awesome tricks were done on it today!

Off the mountain we also had some amazing things go down. Today we made HCSC history. How did we make history you ask? Well today we had our very first, High Cascade Jousting Tournament! Campers of all ages came down to see just how truly amazing HCSC jousting really is. It’s so much fun! Just check it out for yourself!

Even Signature Sessioner™ Pat Moore got in on the action!

And no, he definitely did not win!

The winners of the first ever HCSC Jousting Tournament were so pumped! They got awesome prizes from Electric, Four Square, Eastern Boarder, and Under Armour!

The Jousting Tournament wasn’t the only first that we had at HCSC today though. We also had our first sailing expedition in the lake today. Signature Sessioners™ Austin Smith, and Curtis Ciszek brought their Hobie Cat Sail Boats and set off onto the open lake with a bunch of campers. Counselor Chelsea captured the images. Thanks Chelsea!

After jousting and sailing, it was time for the world famous Marshmallow Money Cup™, aka The Contest Formally Known as the Huckleberry Jam™. This contest was one of the most fierce skate contests the HCSC street course had ever seen!

These campers tore up the 15,000 sq foot street course like it was nothing! They were absolute skateboard animals. It was out of this world. Just look for yourself.

The crowd of campers went absolutely wild for this sessions Marshmallow Money Cup™!

And in the end, it was this handful of amazingly talented skaters who took home the top prizes in all of the different divisions. We had beginner, girls, intermediate, and advanced divisions. They all got amazing prizes, and the winner from the advanced group took home a brand new Skate Mental deck from Eastern Boarder.

After skating in such an intense competition, there really is no better way to cool off than with an awesome camp fire and some delicious s’mores!

Tomorrow it’s the LDOH™ (last day on hill) for Session 3, and it’s guaranteed to be an awesome one. So check back and see what kind of action goes down!

The Marshmallow is our beloved mascot
