Kyle Mack and Arielle Gold Win US Open Junior Jam & a Trip to HCSC

Monday, April 12th, 2010

The winners and their winnings... (r. Kyle Mack, c. The Marshmallow, l. Arielle Gold) photo: Niel Korn

Every March, since 1982 a season of professional snowboard contests come to a close at The Burton US Snowboarding Championships.  Although winners of the USO might not be overnight’d across country to appear on Oprah the next day, or become instant mainstream media sensations – the honor and prestige of a USO Title is unmatched anywhere within the sport of snowboarding.  Craig Kelly, Terje Haakonsen, Todd Richards, Peter Line, Travis Rice, Ross Powers, Danny Kass, Shaun White, Torah Bright, Kelly Clark and Gretchen Bleiler are just a few of the names who have won titles along the way.

Back in 1999 the USO added a junior division to showcase the best 13 and under riders in the world: The USO Junior Jam.  Since it’s debut, the winner’s of the Junior Jam read like a “who’s gonna be who” list in pro snowboarding: Pat Moore, Jake Blavelt, Luke Mitrani, Ellery Hollingsworth, Shayne Pospisil, Matt Ladley, etc.  If there was ever a contest oracle for predicting the future: this would be it.

HCSC loves this 100% Snowboarding Contest, and is proud to provide the winners of the Junior Jam with a customary trip to High Cascade.  Kyle Mack and Arielle Gold, we salute you.  See ya this summer!

Has Snowboarding Been Around Since 1939?

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Welp it seems so!  Although many folks think of snowboarding starting with the Sherman Poppen and the Snurfer (1965), mid westerner Gunnar Burgson and his co-inventor buddies (Harvey Burgeson and Vern Wicklund) were sliding sideways  as early as 1939.  This video is awesome…

Sadly they were in their 70′s and 80′s in 1989 when HCSC started and never got to shred with us.

Here's an Original! Photo from Don Burgson (son). They called them "Bunkers" not Snowboards - but they still shredded them.

New Scotty Lago Olympic Scandal?

Lago robs Mitrani of The Bronze?

Jack Mitrani is Robbed of the Bronze Title!

Many people feel Signature Sessionerâ„¢ Scotty Lago was robbed of a silver medal. Well, upon further investigation, the real debate should be how Scotty robbed Jack Mitrani of the Bronze.

Sure Jack didn’t compete, but from these images shot at camp last summer, it is clear that Jack is way more bronzed than Scotty.

HCSC Helps USA Win Medals: The Montage Video

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Don’t take our word for it, listen to US Team Pipe Coach Mike Jankowski and see it go down for yourself…

Last summer we built a 22′ Olympic size pipe to help our snowboarding bald eagles bring some shiny metal objects back to the nest.

We just got a SECOND ROPE TOW (boo-yea)

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Get more laps in than Michael Phelps...

Seriously.  For those of you who experienced The Big Toeâ„¢, our new rope tow last summer – you’ll be happy to know that we’ll have a second one this summer.  Hiking?  Ha ha ha… who ever heard of hiking.  Behold the majesty of technology that which is The Rope Tow.  In a few years we’ll be sending astronaut to the moon via these rope tow contraptions.

DYK?: Timberline’s first lift ever was a rope tow (back in the days when TV was black and white – and you watched it on a TV).
