With 300 days of sunshine a year the high desert country of Central Oregon is a perfect playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Bend’s world famous golf offers more than 25 unique courses, coveted fly-fishing at over 150 rivers and lakes, and outdoor adventures including hiking, and world class rock climbing at Smith Rock. And what’s more, the region boasts an equally impressive selection of restaurants and breweries, a vibrant nightlife, unique lodging and a growing arts scene.
Locals Advice
Our winter office used to be based in Bend. Here are some of our personal recommendations:
- The Mount Bachelor Village - Nice condos slightly out of the hustle and bustle of town
- The Phoenix Inn - Hotel located right in the heart of downtown Bend
- Deschutes Brewery - Bend’s famous brewer. Take the tour or eat some tasty brew house grub with a refreshing adult beverage.
- Kan Pai- Bend’s finest sushi restaurant and sake bar.
- The Taco Stand - A semi-secret locals’ lunch favorite. Who knew you could still get lunch for under $5?
- Cibelli’s - massive, authentic New York pizza. Awesome!
- McMennamins - The Old St. Francis School, conveniently located in the center of downtown Bend, has undergone a transformation from 1936 Catholic schoolhouse to lively destination hotel complete with classrooms-turned-lodging rooms, a pub, brewery and bakery, a movie theater, private meeting and event space and a truly fantastic Turkish-style soaking pool.
- Meadow Recreation Area - Less than 10 miles out of town on Cascade Lakes Hwy puts you on a beautiful hike along the majestic Deschutes River.
- Tumalo Falls - 12 miles west of Bend on Tumalo Falls RD. Follow Franklin Ave. West from downtown Bend through the park to Galveston Rd. This turns into Skyliner Dr. which leads to Tumalo Falls Rd, which leads you to a beautiful waterfall.
