History was made at High Cascade Session 2 during the 3rd Annual Scotty Arnold Rap Battle as Gus Warbington became the youngest rapper ever to be crowned king. It was a multicultural lyrical extravaganza as Scotty hosted a tournament of 16 campers, along with multiple guest battles.
As Scotty urged the participants to “Spit Hot Fire”, the 200+ crowd was bumping to the rhythm of DJ Matty Mo and Majai’s beats. In toe-to-toe, 8-Mile Style battles: the crowd cheer-o-meter advanced rappers from round to round. Between rounds the crowd was treated to mini guest battles such as the Jesse Burtner vs. Micah Hollinger battle, the Ben Fee vs. Scotty Arnold Battle and perhaps the most historic of all: The Andreas Wiig vs. Ami Voutilainen Nordic Battle. Andreas spittin Norwegian, Ami spittin Finnish and the crowd laughing in English. It was amazingly awesome.
As the tournament progressed, talented hopefuls with rap names like MC Nightwolf, Mountain Gorilla and D-Rod got bumped out of contention. When the dust settled and the crowd cheered it’s last cheer: it was the power duo of Park City Utah’s Blaise Kotsenburg and Bend, Oregon’s Gus Warbington who came out on top. The winners took home shiny new Salomon Arnie 5000’s, big props from Mr. Arnold and mad street-cred.
In the Ben Fee vs. Scotty battle, some deep-rooted childhood issues were worked out. Ben struck first and cut deep. Scotty hollered back and the two drew lyrically even. In Round 2 Ben launched into a ridiculous display of dancing and rapping leaving the crowd speechless and awestruck. Scotty ain’t scared of nobody though… He gripped the mic tight enough to make it bleed and fired back a poetic butt-kicking on Mr. Fee. In the end they called it a draw, leaving the lucky crowd who witnessed as the real winners of the evening.
